Bridge over Lake Lavon
Collin County is planning to build a bridge over Lake Lavon and effectively close half the lake to sailboats. Recently, a bridge was built on Lake Dallas that threatened that lake also. Luckily, enough citizens were able to get the bridge height increased so that current sailboats in the region could pass underneath in one section.

Letter from local sailor to us!
Dear Fellow Lake Lavon Sailors,
Collin County plans to build an East/West bridge across Lake Lavon that cuts the lake in half. Is LYC aware of these bridge plans?
The western bridge runs just south of the tree line; ugly, but it does not really decrease sailing area.
The east bridge pretty much splits the good sailing area in half.
Collin County is currently spending 2007 bond money to investigate the project (between a third and a half million dollars.)
Below are some links to various mentions of the project from 2005 through the present.
If you know of other information, please send it our way.
We will have a website up soon:

We are planning to fight ANY new bridge across Lake Lavon, but IF there must be a bridge, then we favor the upper most proposed bridge location (see the 2005 attached graphic.) This upper route makes good use of the newly completed Lake Lavon bridges and crosses the Eastern lake at a much shallower area (beginning of tree stumps, then connecting to HWY 78 via County Road 550).
