It was a great weekend for sailing!

This was a weekend when you are glad you have friends!

The strong north winds took their toll on Docks M and F.  My slip F33 and Steve slip F32 were basically destroyed.  Floyd, Patti, Howard, Greg, Jim, Lance and others worked hard to keep my boat from beating up the starboard (south) side of the boat against the other dock.  One of my 3/4″ dock lines snapped in front of Floyd.  Floyd tried several times to get a hold of me and when I finally picked up my phone, I saw 4 calls and a text message.  I raced from Double Oak, Texas (just shy of El Paso…OK.  Really just west of Lewisville) to the lake.  We all managed to move the boat just in time.  She now sits at the end of B dock (just south of the clubhouse).  Steve’s boat was moved to end of the clubhouse.  Several of us spent the night Sunday to double check the boats.

But wait…there is more.  When I returned to the lake later on Sunday, I was going to take the old marina “John Boat” and go out to my boat to spend the night.  It was about 9:30-10p when I jumped on the boat.  Fuel..check.  Paddle…check.  Lifevest…check.  Flashlight (for navigation under 7m vessel)…check.  I started the engine and took off.  I arrived at my boat, dumped my gear and then headed to see Lance and Jim who were staying on their boats on M dock.  That is when the trouble started.  Engine died…can’t pump the bulb to prime for fuel.  I know exactly how long I tried to prime the fuel…Exactly the distance from my boat to the south shore.  With a little paddling, I actually avoided the south shore and landed on the temporary location of L dock next to the south shore.  After a call to Greg, John and Greg came to the rescue.  Greg heaved a line to me perfectly accept for the loop on his end came off the cleat…Oops.  After another go around, we had it and they safely towed me back to the old marina.  After a little fun helping get the Party barge in (sideways to the north wind), we had a drink and then I finally made it to my boat at midnight.

That night was perfect, hatches open, screens up, it was finally cool !  Lastly, Monday was an awesome day.  Perfect temperature.  Perfect wind (for sailing, not the marina), and lots of friends around the various marina chunks.
